How often you run your system, the system’s age, its make and model, and whether or not it was serviced regularly over the course of its life can all play a significant role in how long your system will last approximately 15 years.
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, so basically the higher the MERV number the smaller the particle it can trap from the air. MERV values vary from 1 to 16.
If it’s a 1” filter every month and 4” filters every 6 months.
Whenever it is dirty, each home environment is unique, we have seen up to 3 months on a 1” filter and it is not uncommon to see 4” filters go over a year before needing to be replaced.
If your auxiliary heat is on it means 1 of 3 things, 1. The heat pump is in defrost mode. 2. The outdoor temperature is low enough that the heat pump is unable to meet the desired setpoint. 3. The setpoint is 2 degrees or higher than the actual room temperature. All of these are normal operations of your heat pump.
This when the heat pump is not operating and you are only getting heat from you backup heat. Backup heat can be electric or gas depending on your fuel source.
